LEOMINSTER — State Sen. Scott Brown yesterday visited the headquarters of the Leominster Republican Committee, signing books to help fund the committee's work and taking part in a fundraiser for his 2012 re-election campaign at the Columbia Hotel Masons Hall.

Outside, Mr. Brown said he was saddened to hear of the suicide of a counselor who was being investigated for molesting children at Camp Good News in Sandwich. In his book he writes about being molested at a summer camp, and though he did not say which camp, Camp Good News has publicly acknowledged sending the senator an apology letter.

"It's sad when anybody passes away," Mr. Brown said of the counselor's death. He said he wrote about his experience to help others who may have lived through similar experiences.

The senator also talked about the recent last-minute budget deal which staved off a federal shutdown. He called the measure "a good first step" and said he supports the president and leadership in the process.
