NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) - The athletic director at a suburban Philadelphia Roman Catholic high school is behind bars charged with promising a former student gifts in return for sexual favors.

County detectives arrested 39-year-old Francis Murphy, of Bryn Mawr, on Friday. Prosecutors say Murphy intended to meet the teen for sex but the meeting had been arranged by investigators.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman says a former Archbishop Carroll High School student had contacted Murphy through Facebook about retrieving a pair of cleats from the football locker room. Ferman says the exchanges soon became sexual in nature.

Murphy is being held on $250,000 bail. It was not clear if he had an attorney. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia says he has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the case.
