Montgomery County authorities Monday accused a Delaware County Catholic high school athletic director of making a sex for cleats offer to a 17-year-old former student at the school.

Francis Murphy, the Archbishop John Carroll High School athletic director who also helped coach boys' baseball and football at the school, Friday was arrested on charges of corruption and attempted corruption of a minor, unlawful communications with a minor, promoting prostitution and related offenses.

Murphy, 39, of Lower Merion, remains in the county prison in lieu of $250,000 cash bail.

Murphy allegedly sent sexually suggestive messages to the boy, who left the school earlier this year for economic reasons.

Murphy allegedly offered the boy gifts, including items like spikes or a visor, in exchange for sexual favors, according to the criminal complaint.

Murphy told the boy he would be his "Sugar Daddy," the complaint said.

Authorities arrested Murphy Friday when he arrived at a Bridgeport ice cream shop to meet the boy and take him to his apartment for sex.
