Fr. Jose Arturo Cepeda comes from the scandal ridden archdiocese of San Antonio, in our view, one of the most secretive and reckless archdioceses in the country in recent years. In the last few years, church officials there have let at least two credibly accused child molesting clerics, Fr Charles Miller and Br Richard Suttle, live and work in San Antonio without warning the public or the parishioners. At best, Cepeda kept silent and at worst colluded in these irresponsible decisions. Pope Benedict has recently appointed compromised clerics with terribly disappointing histories of ignoring and concealing horrific child sex crimes. So we are skeptical that Cepeda will make children safer. We hope facts prove us wrong. Now more than ever it is important for anyone who has seen or suspected misdeeds by clergy to contact law enforcement. That anyone who has been harmed by clergy to come forward, reveal the abuse and begin healing.
