Child-molestation charges against an elderly Roman Catholic priest who runs a Queens home for troubled boys were dropped yesterday.

The Queens District Attorney's Office announced that it wouldn't be prosecuting Brother Thomas Trager after "further investigation of the case," said a spokesperson for DA Richard Brown.

Trager, 72, was arrested Nov. 4 after a former teenage resident of St. John's Residence for Boys in Rockaway Park told authorities he had been sexually abused by the home's longtime director, court documents said.

Trager had been charged with sexual abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.

He faced up to four years in prison if convicted.

"We are very happy for [Trager]," a telephone operator at the home told The Post yesterday.

The group home has been plagued with problems over the years, including the alleged gang rape of a 9-year-old by three teens and reports that the foster-care facility was out of control.
