A former Catholic priest accused of abusing women more than two decades ago was arrested and charged by Lambton OPP.

Gabriele DelBianco, 54, faces three counts of sexual assault for allegedly sexually abusing a woman, who was teen at the time, during the early '80s, police said.

DelBianco was ordained in 1982 and decided to leave the priesthood in 1996, the diocese said.

According to the diocese, DelBianco was associate pastor at Our Lady Help of Christians in Wallaceburg (1981-1984); studied in Rome (1984-1985); associate pastor at St. John Vianney in Windsor and part-time chaplain at Brennan high school in Windsor (1985-1987); administrator at St. Rose of Lima in Windsor (1987-1988); associate pastor at St. Gregory, St. Clair Beach, and part-time chaplain at St. Anne1s high school in Tecumseh (1988-1990); and pastor at Sacred Heart in Windsor (1990-1994).

DelBianco, an Auburn resident, turned himself in to the OPP's Petrolia detachment on April 8.
