  Former Wallaceburg Priest Charged with Sex Assault

A former Wallaceburg priest has been charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Lambton OPP have charged Gabriele DelBianco for incidents that occurred between 1983 and 1986. The Diocese of London said it has received claims from six women, all reportedly from Wallaceburg, regarding sexual misconduct that occurred while they were minors.

Reports say, that a woman from Windsor has come forward, claiming abuse from DelBianco as well.

The Diocese of London said DelBianco was ordained in 1982 and decided to leave the priesthood in 1996.

Among his various stops, he was associate pastor at Our Lady Help of Christians in Wallaceburg from 1981 to 1984.

Lambton OPP Crime Unit report that they have arrested and charged a 54 year old Auburn, Ontario man with 3 counts of Sexual Assault.

The offences are alleged to have occurred over a period of time in the early 1980’s when the accused was a member of the clergy in the Catholic Church.

In February of 2011, the Lambton OPP Crime Unit commenced an investigation into allegations of sexual assault on a woman that were committed while she was a teenager in the early 1980’s.

On April 8th, 2011, the accused was arrested without incident when he turned himself in to OPP at Petrolia Detachment.

Gabriele DELBIANCO will appear in Sarnia court on the 16th of May, 2011 to answer to the charges.
