SACRAMENTO — Following Saturday evening mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Dowtown Sacrament, three survivors of clergy abuse were trying to ge parishoners to take a stand for children.

Their appaearance outside this Catholic church and hundreds of others across America is not coincidental. Sunday morning, Pope Bendedict XVI will "beatify" recently deceased Pope John Paul II. It's the next step to make the beloved pontiff a saint. The process has been fast tracked since his death and the people behind "SNAP", the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, say that, too is not a coincidence.

"I think that is a part of a publicity effort to upgrade the image of the church in the face of thousands of abuse cases," says Tim Lennon of SNAP.

Pope John Paul II faced significant criticism for his handling of abuse cases, but SNAP insists they aren't handing out flyers to pass judgement, but simply to make people aware.

"We don't want people standing by and not questioning things," says survivor Chico Chavez.
