As thousands in Rome and countless others around the world celebrated the beatification of Pope John Paul II today, local protesters reacted to the historic event in a different way.

Members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) and "Victims for Justice" held signs and passed out fliers outside the Cathedral Basilica in Center City today.

The demonstration began at 2 p.m.

The fliers urged churchgoers to report child sex abuse among priests to the authorities.

It was just one of the many protests that occurred today in seven countries and 70 cities.

SNAP claims that the protests were done in order to "help keep kids safer and redirect some people's energies into stopping child sex crimes and cover ups."
