A CANADIAN Roman Catholic bishop has pleaded guilty to importing and possessing child pornography.

Raymond Lahey, 70, former head of the diocese of Antigonish, Novia Scotia, appeared in an Ottawa courtroom today and offered a guilty plea. He was originally charged for possessing and importing child pornography in 2009, reports the Washington Post.

The Canadian Press reports that Lahey was arrested after his laptop was searched at Ottawa airport following a flight from the UK. He resigned from his post before the charges were made public.

The authorities have said that Lahey had hundreds of indecent images of young males on his computer.
