KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha priest is on administrative leave after an alleged inappropriate phone conversation with a girl.

Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki informed parishioners in a letter Saturday that he had placed the Rev. Michael Nowak on leave and restricted him from ministry pending an investigation.

Nowak is pastor of St. Therese of Lisieux (saynt teh-REHZ' of lihs-YUH') Catholic Church in Kenosha. The archbishop says the Archdiocese of Milwaukee received a report alleging an inappropriate telephone conversation between Nowak and a minor female. No physical contact was reported.

The archbishop's letter says the girl's parents contacted Kenosha police, and police have started an investigation.

A spokeswoman says the archdiocese also will do its own investigation.

Messages left with the parish office were not immediately returned Sunday.
