Researchers hired by the American Catholic Church to investigate cases of sexual abuse by priests have dismissed both homosexuality and enforced celibacy as the cause.

Instead, they blame poorly trained priests' inability to cope with the 60s and the sexual revolution.

David Clohessy, National Director of The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, told BBC Radio 5 live: "I don't think [the findings] are going to fly with a lot of people.

"They were chosen by the bishops, paid by the bishops," Clohessy explained to Rhod Sharp on Up All Night.

"Bishops set this whole process up so that the focus would be on the 'bad apple' priests."
