A Roman Catholic priest is returning to an Ohio courthouse for the first time since being convicted of murder for strangling and stabbing a nun.

The Rev. Gerald Robinson is trying to overturn the verdict that has kept him locked up since 2006.

Robinson and his lawyers are to appear at a hearing Friday in Toledo where they're expected to argue that newly discovered police reports could have changed the outcome of the case.

Prosecutors contend that the misfiled reports don't contain anything that would help free Robinson, who was sentenced to serve 15 years to life behind bars.

A jury convicted him of killing Sister Margaret Ann Pahl a day before Easter in 1980 at a Toledo hospital where they worked.

Church historians say it's the only documented case of a Catholic priest killing a nun.
