A Wayne County grand jury indicted Pastor Gerald Dishman earlier this week on 13 counts of rape.

Kentucky State Police say the victims came forward about a year ago, telling them that Dishman raped them numerous times between 1982 and September 1994. The indictment states that Dishman engaged in sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion and that the crimes happened while both victims were under the age of 12.

These allegations surfaced about 17 years after the last alleged rape incident. Police say it's not uncommon for victims to suppress sexual abuse trauma, only to report what happened many years later in an attempt to seek closure.

Neighbors say Dishman started the Denny Hollow Jesus Name church about 10 years ago, several years after the alleged sexual abuse. While not wanting to talk about it on camera, many in the community say they are shocked and surprised by the charges.

Gerald Dishman was released from jail on bond, following his indictment earlier this week.

WKYT attempted to get a comment from Gerald Dishman. A woman answered the phone number listed for his home and said "No comment" before hanging up.

State Police say their detective spent about a year compiling information, before taking it to the grand jury.
