The Archdiocese of Philadelphia said Tuesday it has contracted with the Bucks County Network of Victims Assistance to provide training for 22,000 clergy, employees and volunteers.

Church officials said training by NOVA will be just one of the steps taken "to assist victims, advance the protection of children, and ensure the integrity of the priesthood." The archdiocese said training would include best practices for the mandatory reporting of abuse.

NOVA was founded in 1974 in Jamison as a nonprofit dedicated to counseling and empowering the victims of sexual assault. The group said it also works to eliminate violence in Bucks County through advocacy, community education and prevention programs.

This initiative goes beyond current training and requirements for institutions under Pennsylvania law, church officials said.
