A priest based in Ahascragh is among a number of clerics facing investigation following claims made in a Prime Time Investigates documentary earlier this week. The programme alleged that he raped a girl and fathered her child while serving as a missionary in Kenya nearly 30 years ago.

It is understood Fr Kevin Reynolds, who has denied the allegation, has stepped aside from his ministry as parish priest in Ahascragh pending an investigation. Fr Reynolds returned to Ireland from Africa in 2004.

Bishop of Elphin Christopher Jones notified Gardai and the HSE of the accusation following the broadcast on Monday.

Fr Reynolds, whom the programme A Mission To Prey claimed had fathered a daughter 29 years ago, is one of a number of priests named in the broadcast, which discussed the alleged abuse and rape of children by Irish priests in Africa.
