Italian Priest Renato Kizito was released Friday afternoon after no charges were preferred against him in court

The Italian Catholic priest in the middle of sodomy allegations Fr. Renato Kizito can now sigh with relief after being set free on Friday.

Kizito was arrested Thursday and spent the night in custody at the Kabete Police station after it was alleged that he had sodomised his 26 year old secretary.

He was early Friday arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts but no charges were preferred against him.

His lawyer Cliff Ombeta says he will commence a defamation lawsuit on behalf of Father Kizito against the 26 year old man who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by the priest.

It had been an enduring and trying moment for the 49-year- Old Catholic priest, who has had to spend the night in police custody facing charges of alleged sodomy.

The Italian born cleric who has lived in Kenya for over 20 years doing charity and working at the Comboni Missionary, was on Thursday handed himself in to Kilimani police station where he was interrogated before being whisked away to Kabete police station.

Police detained the priest as they conducted forensic tests to build a case against him.

This is the second time the priest is being implicated in a sexual abuse case in the last two years.

In 2009 Father Kizito was accused of sexually molesting young boys under his care, a charge he vehemently denied.
