A lawsuit is being filed against the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Bishop Robert Finn and the Rev. Shawn Ratigan on behalf of a child who was alleged to have been a victim of child pornography by Ratigan, the child's lawyers said in a news release on Wednesday.

The lawsuit, which will be announced at a news conference on Thursday, alleges that the diocese and Finn violated federal and state child pornography and child abuse laws when they concealed evidence that Ratigan was creating child pornography by photographing and being sexually inappropriate with young parish girls.

The lawsuit also alleges that Finn and the diocese concealed evidence in order to avoid a scandal within the diocese.

The victim's parents said a priest and the diocese possessed child pornography depicting their minor daughter.

The attorneys for the child are Jeff Anderson, Patrick Noaker and Rebecca M. Randles.
