The much-delayed carnal abuse and indecent assault trial of Jamaica-born international evangelist, Reverend Dr. Paul Lewis, is currently underway in the Westmoreland Circuit Court.

The trial is being held in camera with a seven member jury chose. The jury was chosen after an hour of deliberation.

Lewis is out on a $300,000 bail.

It is alleged that in June 2009, the pastor, who was a guest preacher met a 15-year-old girl at a church convention in Little London, Westmoreland.

He allegedly exchanged telephone numbers with the girl and, in a subsequent meeting, took her and her 14-year-old female companion on a trip to Clarendon.

It is reported that on their return to Westmoreland, the girls spent the night with the pastor at his Negril hotel room.

It was during that night that the alleged sexual encounter took place.

A police report was filed and Reverend Lewis was charged with carnal abuse of the 15-year-old girl and indecent assault involving the 14-year-old.

Reverend Lewis will appear before the Sav-la-mar Resident Magistrate’s Court today to answer to the charge of perverting the course of justice.

Lewis was charged after he allegedly asked a witness to pay money to the two teenage girls and to do everything to make the case go away.
