KANSAS CITY—

As the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph faces scrutiny over one priest's misconduct, they've released a statement announcing the removal of another priest from his parish because of sexual misconduct allegations.

In a statement released on June 2, the diocese recommended to Bishop Robert Finn that Father Michael Tierney be removed as pastor of Christ the King and from all other public ministry. The statement says an independent review board received "credible reports alleging sexual misconduct with minors" dating back to the early 1970s and 1980s. One person met with the review board, and two others made similar claims of misconduct, but declined to meet with the board..

The statement says Tierney denies the allegations, but has cooperated fully in this process. Bishop Finn implemented the board's recommendations on June 2.

The diocese and Bishop Finn are already in the hot seat after a family filed a lawsuit saying the diocese and Bishop Robert Finn concealed evidence that Father Shawn Ratigan was taking inappropriate pictures of young girls. Ratigan is already facing child porn charges. The suit charges that starting in 2006, Ratigan took photographs of a young girl. The lawsuit is being filed on behalf of that girl's family, who is remaining anonymous.
