KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two groups protested peacefully outside of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Kansas City on Saturday, expressing anger at the handling of the priest scandal in the Kansas City Diocese of the Catholic church.

About 30 people gathered with signs calling for Bishop Robert Finn to resign.

Finn has come under fire for the handling of the Rev. Shawn Ratigan child pornography case.

A second group gathered at the base of the cathedral, praying for unity in the church.

"Scripture bears out that Bishop Finn was right in working with Ratigan, until it reached the point where things had to be handed over to the police," said Theresa Lynn.

"One of (Finn's) biggest jobs is to take care of our kids," said Tom Vivian. "That didn't happen here. He needs to go."

Twice in recent weeks, Finn said he regrets that police were not brought into the Ratigan case earlier.

An editorial in Saturday's Kansas City Star called on Finn to step down.
