After learning about the sexual abuse committed by priests and other religious between 1975 and 2004, the pope sent nine “apostolic visitors” to Ireland in November 2010. Their responsibility was to investigate the extent of the psychological, physical and sexual abuse. Now, the Vatican is analyzing those reports.

The pope's representatives were sent to see if the solutions proposed by the Church in Ireland were effective. Especially when responding to allegations and in helping victims.

The Vatican thanked the Irish bishops for their cooperation. It also said it would make an announcement with concrete directions in the near future.

In January 2012, the Vatican plans to publish a summary with the results of this apostolic visit, something that's very unusual when dealing with this type of research.
