NEW CITY – The former pastor of St. Gregory Barbarigo Roman Catholic Church in Garnerville has pled guilty to grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, for stealing close to $25,000 from the church, Thomas Kreiser, 45, admitted that he used the church's American Express credit card for personal expenses and recreational activities, including online gambling.

The missing money was uncovered during an Archdiocesan review and audit of the administration of the parish. He is currently undergoing inpatient treatment for his gambling addiction.

Restitution in full has already been paid to the parish.

When sentenced in July, Kreiser faces up to four years in state prison.
