sexual assault charges.

The U.S. Marshals Service said McCabe was extradited Sunday evening at San Francisco International Airport where U.S. marshals relinquished custody of him to officers of An Garda Siochana, the National Police of Ireland. Upon his return to Ireland, McCabe will face nine counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault stemming from allegations that he sexually assaulted six young school boys from 1973 to 1981.

McCabe did not enter a plea during his arraignment in a Dublin courtroom on Tuesday. He was ordered held without bail and is due back in court next week. McCabe has denied abusing any children.

At the time of the alleged assaults, McCabe served as a Catholic priest in two parishes in Dublin, Ireland. After leaving Ireland, McCabe worked in churches in the Catholic Santa Rosa Diocese for approximately four years until his forced resignation in 1987 amid allegations of sexual abuse by parishioners in that diocese.

McCabe, 75, was transferred to St. Bernard's Parish -- which comprises St. Bernard's and St. Joseph churches -- after molestation allegations began surfacing against him in Dublin. McCabe arrived in Eureka, reportedly just months after he was deemed a pedophile, enrolled in a treatment program and was placed on medications intended to rein in his sexual desires.

In August, four men from Humboldt County filed lawsuits in Sonoma County Superior Court against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa, alleging they were repeatedly molested by McCabe when he was at St. Bernard's Parish. Sacramento attorney Joseph George, representing plaintiffs in the case, said he recently dismissed the suits but plans to refile within the next month to include newly unearthed evidence and additional defendants, including the Archdiocese of Dublin.

"They're the ones who dumped him here," George said. "It's a true international conspiracy."
