Alan Shatter - Discussions on redacted portions are ongoing

Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has said an application to the High Court may be necessary if agreement cannot be reached in the coming days concerning redactions that need to be made before the publication of the Cloyne Report.

Speaking in Co Armagh today, Minister Shatter said discussions on finalising the redacted portion of the report are ongoing and that this process has taken considerable time.

Last April, the High Court cleared the way for the report's publication, with the exception of references to one individual against whom there are criminal proceedings.

Minister Shatter said he had hoped the report would be published by now, but there is still 'some uncertainty' and it was possible that a further application to the court would be necessary.

The Cloyne Report follows a two-year investigation by a commission headed by Circuit Court Judge Yvonne Murphy.

It looked into the handling of clerical child sex abuse allegations in the Catholic Diocese of Cloyne.
