A priest from Michigan now based out of Port Charlotte is facing multiple charges after allegedly exposing himself to a detective and propositioning him for sex while on the beach Tuesday, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident happened just after 1:00 p.m. as an undercover detective noticed 37-year-old Bernard Chojnacki walking on south on the trails.

According to the affidavit, the detective was working undercover on Caspersen’s Beach due to growing complaints of indecent activities in the area.

As Chojnacki was walking, he looked over his shoulder at the detective and they began a conversation about how beautiful the beach was.

As they continued speaking, they walked to the dead end of a wooden trail, and at that point, Chojnacki grabbed the detective’s genitals through his shorts.

The detective pulled away.

Chojnacki pulled out his own genitals, began to sexually stimulate himself and told the detective he wanted to perform oral sex on him, according to the report.

At that moment, the detective identified himself as a deputy sheriff, showed his badge and arrested the suspect.

Chojnacki was charged with indecent exposure and battery. His bond was set at $1,250

According to the Church of the Resurrection of our Lord website, the priest attended SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Michigan and has been working for to St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Port Charlotte.

The profile says that Chojancki received his first call by God while on a pilgrimage during his second year of high school.
