DETROIT — The Archdiocese of Detroit says it plans a review after a Mass as part of a weekend gathering that was sponsored by organization of Catholic reform groups.

Archbishop Allen Vigneron (VIG'-neh-ron) had warned Roman Catholic priests that they could be defrocked if they participated in Sunday's Mass in Detroit, saying the service during the conference sponsored by the American Catholic Council may violate church teachings.

The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report the Rev. Robert Wurm presided over Mass at downtown Detroit's Cobo Center, and the archdiocese says there may have been "liturgical abuses."

Wurm says he doesn't expect disciplinary action and isn't worried about the possibility. The 78-year-old retired priest last served at St. James Catholic Church in Ferndale.

The archdiocese had supported a different weekend conference.
