FATHER J.B Kalanzi Ssepuya, the priest accused of grabbing another man’s wife, wants the matter settled out of court.

Ssepuya, through his lawyers Muganwa, Nanteza and Co. Advocates, yesterday asked the family division of the High Court in Kampala for one week as he tries to reach a compromise with the complainant, Okumu Masiga, a Kampala Catholic faithful.

Masiga is accusing Fr. Ssepuya of committing adultery and fathering a child with his wife, Margaret Mbakire Kyakuwa.

Through Rwakafuuzi and Co. Advocates, Masiga dragged the priest, who presided over their wedding ceremony on December 30, 2006 at Christ the King Kampala, to court.

On May 30, Masiga filed for a divorce and Ssepuya was summoned to appear in court yesterday.

Both Ssepuya and Kyakuwa did not turn up for the hearing, but were represented by their lawyers.

The parties appeared before the court registrar in a closed session and the matter was adjourned to July 7.

Kampala Archdiocese Vicar General Rev. Fr. Charles Kasibante last week said the church had taken action on Fr. Ssepuya, but declined to give details.

However, sources said he had been suspended indefinitely from conducting Church business.
