The commission investigated two complaints against Fr Tarin, who died in 2003, aged 81.

The first complainant reported that she had been abused when she was aged six, at some time in the early 50s.

When confronted by the Cloyne Vicar General, Monsignor Denis O'Callaghan, the priest claimed to have no memory of the incident.

The complainant did not want the matter reported to the gardai.

The second complainant came forward in 2009 and Monsignor O'Callaghan's successor reported his complaint and the first complaint to the gardai.

No investigation was carried out by the gardai as Fr Tarin was already dead.

The report finds that the case typified Monsignor O'Callaghan's attitude to reporting sexual abuse.

He did not follow church guidelines on the duty to report complaints to the gardai and the health authorities.

The report finds that he attempted to bury the first complaint.
