A former East Tennessee priest faces sentencing July 22 after being convicted Thursday of charges that he raped and sexually abused a teenage boy 30 years ago who looked to him as a father figure.

William Casey, 77, of Greene-ville was taken into custody immediately from a Sullivan County courtroom and is being held without bond.

Casey formerly had been a priest in Knoxville. His crimes occurred shortly after becoming priest of St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Kingsport in the 1970s.

Jurors delivered their verdict of guilty to first-degree sexual misconduct and two counts of aggravated rape about 1 p.m. Thursday.
