A man suing a former Winona priest for sexual assault has filed a motion asking a judge to make public the names of 13 other priests accused of sexual abuse who also served in the Winona Diocese.

The motion arrived on the heels of a Minnesota Court of Appeals decision in June throwing out a district court ruling that had barred the man from suing the Winona Diocese and the Archdiocese of Minneapolis and St. Paul on claims that the organizations’ negligence allowed him to be abused by Thomas Adamson from 1980 to 1982 at a Burnsville, Minn., church, where the man served as an altar boy.

Defense attorney Jeff Anderson filed a similar motion in 2009 and planned to use the list at trial before the district court granted summary judgement in the case, stating that a six-year statute of limitations allowing victims of sexual abuse to claim injuries had passed.
