CAMPBELLTON - The sentencing of former Dalhousie priest Charles Picot found guilty in May of indecent assault arising from an incident that happened more than 30 years has been adjourned until Aug. 23. Judge Ronald LeBlanc said in Campbellton Provincial Court on Friday that he was altered in a conference call Thursday night that Picot's lawyer Gilles Lemieux was sick and unable to make it to court. Picot was convicted with committing the offence against John Derek Lapointe in August 1977 when the victim was a teenager. Picot had been a priest at St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Dalhousie.

Police probing series of thefts

CHARLO - Police are investigating a series of thefts in the Charlo and Lorne areas. Last weekend, RCMP received a report that a pickup truck parked near the beach in Charlo had been stolen. RCMP also were told that a generator had been stolen from a trailer in the same area. The stolen truck was later recovered in nearby Lorne, where RCMP are also investigating two reports of chainsaws stolen from residences. Investigators believe there have been other thefts committed in the area.
