At a press conference in London today to launch the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission’s third annual report, the Chair of the NCSC, Baroness Patricia Scotland said:

"The third report highlights the many positive developments in the safeguarding ministry in the Catholic Church in England and Wales, whilst also acknowledging that there is no room for complacency and indeed there is much still to do. This is particularly true in response to the Church’s response to survivors of abuse and the NCSC is both challenged and heartened by the fact that in particular following the Pope’s Visit more people have felt confident enough to come forward to report incidents of abuse in the hope of finding some kind of reconciliation and closure and working to provide a safe and encouraging framework to support survivors is the top priority for the NCSC."

Vice Chair of the NCSC, Sister Jane Bertelsen, FMDM and Director of the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS), Adrian Child, were also in attendance at the press conference.
