The following statement from the Office of the Bishop was read to parishioners of St. John, Dinwiddie, concerning Msgr. Joseph Pham, parochial vicar, at the two Masses of July 9-10:

This week the Diocese received a letter accusing Monsignor Joseph Pham of sexual abuse of a minor. The incident took place over 30 years ago when he was in college.

As required by the Charter for the Protection of Children and our Diocesan Safe Environment Regulations, the Diocese investigated the allegation to determine if it is credible.

Monsignor Pham has admitted the accusation is true and the incident did occur. Therefore, he has been removed from priestly duties. He will be leaving the parish in the next few days.

We ask you to please keep all victims of abuse in your prayers. We also ask you to pray for Msgr. Pham.
