Three indictments were filed Wednesday to the Jerusalem District Court in the case of an ultra-Orthodox cult responsible for the physical abuse of women and children.

The indictment described the ways in which the cult leader, an ultra-Orthodox man from the Bratslav sect whose name has not yet been released, maintained his home’s environment based on his “powerful and charismatic personality, as well as the spiritual qualities attributed to him”.

The leader of an ultra-Orthodox cult accused of abusing women and children.

Two other men were served indictments, one for acting as the alleged right-hand man of the cult leader, and another for suspicion of filling in on occasion for the cult leader. The three are suspected of carrying out serious physical and sexual abuse, including rape, on some of the women and children.

An undercover investigation into the cult was initiated following a complaint submitted by a young woman to Jerusalem Police two and half months ago. The details of the arrests were revealed on Tuesday.

The investigation was uncovered in the beginning of July following a police raid on the residences of the cult members in both Jerusalem and Tiberias.
