A New Castle County grand jury has indicted a priest in the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington on charges of stealing more than $300,000 from a parishioner.

Prosecutors say 62-year-old Michael Angeloni stole the money from a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Child, where he previously served as assistant pastor.

The investigation began in February after the attorney general's office received a report from Wilmington Trust of suspicious financial activity on the victim's account.

The investigation revealed that Angeloni solicited money from the victim on several occasions to pay certain expenses but used the money for other purposes. The total amount taken from the parishioner exceeded $305,000.
