A shocking new report will be revealing how up to 20 Catholic priests have abused hundreds of children over a 40 year period. By Roseanna Boyce - 11/08/11

The report will be out and available in the next two weeks, showing the horrific events that have clearly not been dealt with over the past 40 years. The contents of the report are known to be ‘horrific’ and outline the allegations against priests that abused young children. The diocese had investigated these allegations, receiving nothing from the church as they were uncooperative, yet no files were ever handed over to gardai and no records were found.

The report is expected to be published by the Bishop of Raphoe, a Dr Philip Boyce, in the next two weeks. One victim, raped by one of the Catholic priests has said "I am looking forward to seeing this being published. It will be like a dark cloud lifting off me. I have no doubt that Dr Boyce will apologise to people like me, but I want the truth.”

One incident, in 1977, was when a priest raped many young boys in one of Raphoe’s 33 parishes, receiving the punishment of being ‘sent away’ for a month after the parents of a young boy made a complaint to the church.. The family of the young boy was said to be devastated when the priest returned to the parish so soon. The family were told that the church had ‘dealt’ with the situation and that they should not worry.

The priest, however, continued to move through several other parishes over a period of 30 years and continued to target young boys and abuse them. Gardai were never informed of these allegations.

All of these parishes now have at least two child protection representatives training all who come in to contact with children.
