A U.S. bankruptcy court judge has ruled that retired Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert Weakland and former Bishop Richard Sklba will answer questions under oath about an alleged cover up of child sex abuse.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/q4efad) bankruptcy Judge Susan V. Kelley ruled on Friday that the church officials will be deposed in October. She also sealed the depositions from the public.

Victims have long sought to depose Sklba, who they believe has extensive knowledge of the archdiocese's sex abuse history and was directly involved in reassigning abusers.

Kelley also granted a request by survivor-creditors to depose defrocked priest Daniel A. Budzynski.

The archdiocese sought bankruptcy protection earlier this year because it said pending sexual-abuse lawsuits could leave it with debts it couldn't afford.
