SANDWICH, Mass. -- A woman claims she was abused by an employee at a Cape Cod summer camp. The same camp that apologized to Senator Scott Brown following his revelation he was molested as a child.

Cheryl Madden, 45, said she was sexually abused by a male janitor as a camp counselor looked on in the 1970s. Madden said this happened at Camp Good News and it went on for a few years when she was between the ages of seven and nine.

She said on one occasion a woman, who she believed to be a camp counselor, walked in on her and the janitor and did nothing to stop it.

Madden added there were more victims while she attended the camp. She said Camp Good News engaged in a conspiracy to conceal the sexual abuse that was going on.

Madden, who spoke out on Thursday, said she asked the camp years ago to admit what had been going on, but officials refused.

“I would love in a perfect world to see Camp Good News reopen under different management and have them have to screen these people. These children need a safe haven to go to. I needed a safe haven. I needed a safe haven from what was supposed to be my safe haven, which was my home. There’s a lot of people like that out there. There’s a lot of dysfunction. And I want these kids -- hopefully somebody will hear this that has the finances to do so and buy this camp,” said Madden.

Camp Good News responded in a statement on Thursday saying, "We are well aware of the plaintiff's allegations and believe there is no merit to them. We look forward to challenging the specifics in court.

It is interesting to note that she maintained close contact with camp officials for more than two decades after her alleged abuse and even sent her own son to the camp as recently as last year.

The fact that her late father left a significant amount of money to the Camp, some of which the Camp returned to the plaintiff, may also be a factor in her filing suit."

Madden said she was provoked to come forward with the allegations by a camp counselor who had been accused of abuse actually committed suicide at Camp Good News.
