Cheryl Madden, now 45 and a Florida resident, says a former janitor at Camp Good News in Sandwich started sexually abusing her in a camp bathroom when she was 7 years old, NECN reported Thursday.

NECN quoted Madden as saying, "He would fondle me. Pull my pants down, things like that."

The former South Boston woman said she's angry camp leadership allegedly turned a blind eye to abuse like hers for decades, so she is suing in civil court to help give children the courage to come forward, NECN reported. Madden said she told the camp directors about the abuse after her father died in 2009 and left his estate to the camp.

In February, after U.S. Sen. Scott Brown revealed he had been abused as a child at a Christian camp on the Cape when he was 10, Camp Good News confirmed Brown had been a camper at the facility.
