  Pastor Accused of Sex Assault Arraigned

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan pastor has been officially charged with sexually assaulting a young child. Investigators say the abuse started decades ago.

Ted Butler is a pastor at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walker.

He was in court today on the first of two charges. The first one is in Kent County. Butler didn't speak much in court today, he only answering a few questions from the judge.

This was his first arraignment for two different criminal sexual conduct cases in two West Michigan counties.

Today Butler was officially charged with two counts of CSC in the first degree involving a boy under the age of 13. This case dates back more than 20 years.

He's also accused of molesting a five-year-old boy in 2006 in Ottawa County. He will be arraigned on a charge of second degree CSC in that case next month.

Butler is is out on bond in both cases. He posted a $50,000 bond in Kent County and a $10,000 bond in Ottawa County.

He's expected back in court in Kent County for a preliminary hearing on September 19th.
