PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Court documents filed in a priest abuse case say a high-ranking member of the Philadelphia Archdiocese lied to a man who complained he'd been raped by a priest, telling the accuser the priest had denied the allegations when in fact he'd admitted the assaults.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Monsignor William Lynn told a grand jury he lied to the boy because he believed the priest's admission was a confidential matter between the priest and his doctor.

Lynn's testimony is recounted in court documents released this week as part of an abuse investigation targeting Lynn and three archdiocese priests and a teacher. They were charged in February.

The Inquirer report (http://bit.ly/r80oHz ) says Lynn told a previous grand jury he also opted not to pursue complaints against priests if they were reported by parents of an alleged victim instead of the child.
