We’re grateful that this child molesting cleric has been arrested. For the safety of kids, we hope he stays locked up for a long time.

We hope that any church officials who knew of or suspected Langworthy’s crimes but kept silent face criminal charges as well. Shame on them for keeping quiet about devastating child sex crimes.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 23 years and have more than 10,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Former Minister Arrested In Clinton

Langworthy Faces 8 Counts Of Gratification Of Lust

POSTED: 12:18 pm CDT September 7, 2011

CLINTON, Miss. -- Former Clinton minister John Langworthy has been arrested in Clinton and faces eight counts of gratification of lust, police said.

A Hinds County grand jury recently returned an indictment against Langworthy, who is the former music minister at Morrison Heights Baptist Church and former choir director for Clinton High School, faces two counts in Clinton and six counts in Jackson, Clinton Police Detective Josh Frazier said.

Investigators said the incidents were involved five victims, all under the age of 14, and took place from 1980 and 1984 when Langworthy served as a youth volunteer with two area churches. The names of the churches were not immediately known.

In early August, Langworthy, who resigned from the church in May, told the congregation that more than 20 years ago, while serving at churches in Mississippi and Texas, he had "sexual indiscretions with younger males."
