A Connecticut lawsuit filed by a man claiming he was molested for years by the priest-founder of a once-powerful Roman Catholic religious order is going forward.

The lawsuit by Jose Raul Gonzalez of Mexico claims the late Rev. Marcial Maciel was also his father. He argues the Legionaries of Christ was negligent in failing to protect him from a known pedophile.

A Hartford Superior Court ruling released Wednesday struck down parts of the lawsuit but allowed others alleging negligent supervision.

Plaintiff's attorney Joel Faxon said it will boost efforts to obtain evidence.

A U.S. spokesman for the Legion, Jim Fair, said it was also pleased with the ruling but declined further comment. He said the order once had its U.S. headquarters in Connecticut but its main U.S. offices are now in New York and Atlanta.
