Former Clinton minister John Langworthy was arrested Wednesday and faces eight counts of gratification of lust, investigators said.

A Hinds County grand jury recently returned an indictment against Langworthy, who is the former music minister at Morrison Heights Baptist Church and former choir director for Clinton High School. He faces two counts in Clinton and six counts in Jackson, authorities said.

Investigators said the incidents involved five male victims, who at the time were all under the age of 14, and took place between 1980 and 1984 when Langworthy served as a volunteer for First Baptist Church of Jackson and Daniel Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson. Sources told 16 WAPT's Scott Simmons that Langworthy was called on by parents of those churches to baby-sit their kids. Investigators said that's when the groping would occur -- when the boys were alone with Langworthy.

In early August, Langworthy, who resigned from the church in May, told the congregation that more than 20 years ago, while serving at churches in Mississippi and Texas, he had "sexual indiscretions with younger males."

"Whenever you have an admission of a crime, that makes it a little easier," said Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith. "I think that admission prompted others to come forward."

The complaints came in to police shortly after 16 WAPT News aired the video of Langworthy's admission during the church service.

"This has been evolving over a period of time and it's still evolving," said Clinton Police Det. Josh Frazier.

According to police, the only crimes officers are investigating date back to the early 1980s.

A Clinton judge set bond for Langworthy at $200,000. He was taken to Jackson Wednesday afternoon to face charges there.

Attorney Jeff Rimes said Langworthy has posted bail and is cooperating with investigators.
