Keeping people safe while at church — whether from violence, sexual predators or simply severe weather — is the subject of a daylong seminar planned for Sept. 17.

The group Safe at Church is holding the seminar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Coppell, 590 S. Denton Tap Road.

Topics will include protecting against violence and sexual abuse in the church setting, and preparing for medical emergencies and severe weather. One of the scheduled speakers is Mike Carroll, the Fort Worth Police detective who investigated the 1999 mass shooting at Wedgewood Baptist Church.

Cost for the seminars is $25. That includes lunch. Participants should register by Saturday at www.fbccoppell.org/safety, or call 972-393-9184.
