Lakeland, FL, United States (AHN) – Two Florida pastors are in critical condition after a former deacon went on a shooting rage Sunday.

Authorities arrested Jeremiah Fogle, 57, who allegedly shot Revs. William Boss and Carl Stewart minutes before the Sunday morning service at the Greater Faith Christian Center.

Witnesses told police that Fogle approached Boss at the altar and shot him in the back of the head. The suspect then moved to the left of the altar and shot Stewart three times before being subdued by two parishioners.

Boss and Stewart are in critical but stable condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Before going to the church, police say Fogle also shot and killed his wife Theresa at the couple’s home, which is a block away from the church. Police found her dead on the living room floor.

Fogle was arrested on one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was expected to face a judge on Monday.

Family members said the couple was once members of the church. In 2002 they were married there.

Authorities said this is not the first time Jeremiah Fogle has been in trouble. In 1986 he was arrested for first degree murder in Highlands County but it was unclear if he was ever prosecuted of that case.
