Reverend John Warner has resigned as pastor of Sts. Philip and James Parish, as a result of a recently reported allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor more than 30 years ago at St. Edward Parish in Youngstown.

Warner has denied the allegations, but after a thorough investigation, the Diocesan Review Board concluded the allegation was credible and recommended Father Warner be placed on administrative leave.

“The Diocese of Youngstown continues to be committed to protecting children and helping to heal victims of abuse. I am deeply sorry for the pain suffered by survivors of abuse due to actions of some members of the clergy, because nothing is more important than protecting our children,” said Bishop George V. Murry, in a press release.

The Diocese of Youngstown reported the allegations to the proper authorities and encourages anyone who has experiences sexual abuse by clergy or others associated with the Church to notify local authorities or contact the diocese’s victim’s assistance coordinator, Nancy Yuhasz at 330-744-8451.

A press conference the diocese’s conference room at 225 Elm Street will begin at 11 a.m.
