Few people can claim to have created an entire genre of journalism, but Jason Berry is one of them. He was the first reporter in the United States to care about the pedophile protectors over at the Catholic Church, kick-starting decades of investigative reporting into the sex-abuse scandal with a 1985 piece in the Times of Acadiana, and has continued from there via books, films, but always articles: his latest blockbuster appeared in the National Catholic Reporter last year, an expose into the founder of the creepy-ass Opus Dei movement.

Berry published a book this summer, Render Unto Rome: The Secret Life of Money in the Catholic Church, which delves into the shady money laundering practiced by the princes of Christ. And he'll be in Newport Beach next month to talk about it.

It'll happen at an unlikely place: the Lounge Studio of Style 2020, that hoity-toity place in Newport Beach. Shit, Berry deserves Segerstrom Hall, but you know the lords of Orange County don't want heretics like him sullying their chances at good grace with Orange Bishop Tod D. Brown. Style 2020's address is 888 San Clemente Dr., #100 Newport Beach, (949) 219-2360, and Berry's lecture will happen Nov. 3 at 7:30. See you there! And heckuva job, Brownie!
