NDIAN BROOK - The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is hosting a number of hearings throughout Nova Scotia, including in Indian Brook today.

The session takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Indian Brook Community Hall.

The commission was established as a result of the 2007 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. Its mandate is to inform Canadians about what happened in the 150-year history of the residential schools.

The purpose of the hearings is to inform the public about the commission's work and to provide residential school survivors the opportunity to share their experiences.

The event is open to everyone, as is the Atlantic national event, which will be held in at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax from Oct. 26 to 29.
